Tallest Obelisk Record Book

  1. Tuthmosis III-32.18m-105ft 6in

  2. Hatshepstue-29.56m-97ft

  3. Tuthmosis III-28.95m-95ft

  4. Unknown-25.37m-83ft 3in

  5. Ramesses-25m-82ft

These are just the tallest standing obelisks. Roman soldiers have written of huge stones pointing to the sky. One roman soldier told a story of one obelisk that was as tall as one of the great pyramids. If I were a soldier I would be scared to death of a bunch of crazy pointed stones. There is record of one great obelisk, bigger, stronger, and taller than all others but it hasn't been proven yet. The projected size would be as tall as the Eiffel tower !!!! OMG I cant imagine a big stone as tall as the Eiffel tower ! Maybe those soilders were crazy-you know beging out in the desert talking about a stone a couple hundred feet tall.

Where are the Obelisks Now

Obelisks are all over the world !!! New york, London, Paris, Rome, and so on. When Egypt was conquered obelisks were taken back to other countries. It must have been hard to move a 455 ton stone back to a country. A few obelisks were torn down and destroyed. If you go to Rome, there are 13 imported obelisks. Man next time i go to Egypt I'm gonna bring back an obelisk. the Washington monument is an obelisk!

Masterminds Behind the Great Obelisks

Archaeologists say that the Pharaoh Tuthmosis was the true creator of the obelisk. That would be pretty hard to be the creator when there were 117 obelisks in one region of Egypt at one time. The monuments were suggested as majesty and ambition of the Pharaoh's empire. The workers of obelisks were farmers during the flood season just like the pyramids.( Pharaohs must have worked all the farmers too the bone ! )One temple with the most obelisks is the Temple of Karnak which was built to honor the god Amun-Re. ( Lucky gods !!!!!!!!!!!)

The Purpose of those Big Pointed Rocks

Obelisks were seen as towers in the sky. They served as stories of the Pharaoh's life or the legacy or role of the temple. Like when someone has a building made for them or a statue. Another role that a obelisk had was to be the gateway or entrance to a temple. Hatsheput constructed her obelisk to be taller than her fathers and to be the story of her life. Talk about a family rivalry. Sounds like my brother and I ! Obelisks were erected in pairs near the gateway or pylon of a temple. A single standing obelisks was seen as a reaching down or gift from the gods. A something ton stone sounds like a pretty nice gift to me ( NOT !!). Unlike a pyramid obelisks usually had nothing to do with the afterlife or death.

The Construction of Obelisks

How in the world do u make a huge 105 ft stone with ur own bare hands and some little sticks ? If you went back and time and asked an Egyptian worker, he would tell you a lot more than you thought. First of all ancient Egyptians had very advanced ways of constructing monuments.( I know ur thinking that it is sssoooo advanced to pull some big rocks in the desert with some silly little ropes.) The stone was quarried out of a limestone quarrie. The obelisk was a whole stone. They were four sided and came to a point at the top, like a pyramid. Skilled workers chizzled the rock to where it was smooth and met the requirements of the Pharaoh. When the obelisks were finish a golden cap stone was place on top and hieroglyphics were carved about the Pharaohs life or about the temple. Construction was hard work ! I know I would be tired if I where in the desert making a huge pointed stone for someone!!

What were obelisks seen as and name one purpose.

Do you think that Tuthmosis III could be the creater of the obelisk when there were 117 in a region of Egypt at one time?
